British Prime Minister, David Cameron resigns after Brexit vote or British exit vote. He made the announcement this morning pointing out that the country needs “fresh leadership.” He will officially step down as Prime Minister later this year, precisely, October to help put things in shape before a new leader is chosen. Cameron spent months advocating that citizens vote to remain in the union, and warned a decision to leave would drastically harm the economy, but his appeals fell on deaf ears, with about 52 percent favoring Brexit.
“I held nothing back, I was absolutely clear in my belief,” he said. “The British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path.”
“I love this country and feel honored to have served it,” Cameron said, explaining that the “will of British people must be respected.”
He added that the British people have spoken and their decision should taken lightly. “There can be no doubt about the result. I will reassure the markets that the British economy is strong. This will require strong leadership. I’ve been proud to be prime minister for six years.”
“Now the decision has been made to leave, we need to find the best way,” Cameron said. “I will do everything I can to help. I love this country and I feel honored to have served it. I will do anything I can in future to help this great country succeed.”
His decision to resign puts Britain in a state of quagmire following its referendum to leave the European Union. Britain will be the first country to withdraw from the 28-member EU.
