A Florida man Harvey Sultzer has filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit claiming his wife died after a da Vinci surgical robot procedure. Harvey Sultzer, the husband of late Sandra Sultzer claimed his wife suffered health complications following the surgical procedure.

According to the suit filed on February 6, Sandra underwent an operation at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital in September 2021 to treat her colon cancer. The da Vinci robotic system, a multi-armed, remote-controlled device, was used for the surgery. The electrosurgical instruments are manufactured by ISI.

Sandra Sultzer had abdominal pain and fever before dying of injuries caused by the da Vinci surgical device. The lawsuit did not name the hospital as a defendant in the civil case, but it did name Intuitive Surgical Inc. (ISI), which makes the robotic device, accusing it of negligence and product liability.

According to the lawsuit, Sultzer suffered a burn that caused a rupture in her small intestines during surgery and needed additional surgeries to close it.

The lawsuit further alleged that Intuitive Surgical was aware of the da Vinci system’s insulation issues, which can cause electricity leakage into the patient’s body, but failed to inform the hospital and staff.

In the months following the surgery, Sultzer experienced abdominal pain and fever. According to the lawsuit, Sultzer underwent several medical procedures due to her injuries.

“The injury suffered by Mrs. Sultzer caused her pain and emotional distress,” the lawsuit says. “Mrs. Sultzer incurred expense of medical care, hospitalization, treatment, nursing care and treatment, and the expense of rehabilitative care and treatment.”

Sultzer died in February 2022, and the lawsuit claimed it was a “direct and imminent result of the injuries she suffered” from the da Vinci device.

“Had ISI safely designed its product so that stray electrical energy would not burn the insides of patients without the knowledge or control of the operating surgeons, the small intestine injury to Mrs. Sultzer would not have happened, and she would not have died,” according to the suit.

Intuitive Surgical had received thousands of reports citing “dangerous injuries,” including internal organ burns, that were allegedly caused by the robot’s electrical discharge, the lawsuit says.

The company was also named in a number of liability lawsuits across the United States that claimed patients were injured or died after surgery with the da Vinci system, according to a recent Securities and Exchange Commission report. Those cases have trial dates scheduled this year.

The lawsuit also alleged that Intuitive Surgical “bullies hospitals and physicians to purchase and use the robot.”

Almost 200 corpses left to rot after Colorado couple lavish funeral service money on cars, crypto: court documents

DENVER (AP) — Two Colorado funeral home owners accused of abandoning nearly 200 bodies collected payments from hundreds of families that were meant for cremations and burials and instead bought vehicles, crypto-currency, a $1,500 dinner in Las Vegas, and other personal items, while the bodies prosecutors and an FBI agent said Thursday.

Documents say John and Carrie Halford billed their “Return to Nature” funeral home business as a “return to the traditional way of burial,” offering biodegradable funerals and cremations for up to $1,895.

But instead of keeping their promises to bury clients’ loved ones with dignity, they resorted to using the money to live in ostentatious luxury including a $92,566 GMC Yukon XL and a $28,336 Infiniti SUV, bombshell records revealed.

Between 2019 and 2023, the pair also spent money on cryptocurrencies, lavish trips to Las Vegas and California, and four-figure binges on Tiffany & Co. and Gucci.

Meanwhile, the affidavit said the 189 bodies they had vowed to dispose of were stored “unrefrigerated, in rooms infested with maggots and liquid decomposition.”

John and Carrie Halford were arrested on multiple felony counts last year. AP

Some remains were placed on top of each other, or wrapped in sheets and tied with duct tape, and placed together in body bags.

In some cases, they reportedly gave families bags of mixed concrete in exchange for the ashes of their loved ones.

The affidavit states that when authorities finally executed a search warrant at the Penrose facility, the floors of storage areas were so slippery with the fluid of human decomposition that it posed a risk to officers trying to retrieve the bodies.

At one point during the investigation, officials discovered that “Return to Nature” had buried a female body at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in a grave that was intended for an honorably discharged male Army veteran.

John Holford was released from jail in January after posting $100,000 bond, while Carrie Holford remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond.

The two will stand trial on March 21 on multiple charges – including abuse of a corpse, forgery and money laundering related to their purchase.

Some of the bodies had been in the maggot-infested building for years before they were discovered following reports of a foul odor permeating the surroundings. Families who hired “Return to Nature” to cremate their relatives have told The Associated Press that the FBI confirmed their remains were among the decaying bodies.

IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Fires His Legal Team

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed his legal team led by Mike Ozekhome, SAN.

Kanu also terminated the services of his medical team for failing to provide a medical report validating his alleged heart-related illness.

The decision came barely one month after the Supreme Court’s judgment on Friday, December 15, 2023, which mandated the continuation of Kanu’s trial on terrorism charges.

The case which commenced in 2015, had been placed on hold at the Federal High Court Abuja after the Court of Appeal dismissed the charges in October 2022. The Court of Appeal’s decision was based on the illegality of Kanu’s extradition from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021 for the continuation of his trial.

However, the Supreme Court ruled in December that Kanu’s trial on terrorism charges must continue. Judicial sources, confirming the dismissal of the legal team, stated that Kanu was dissatisfied with the Supreme Court’s decision and subsequently ordered the dissolution of the legal team.

The sources further revealed that another Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kanu Agabi, would be enlisted as the embattled IPOB leader continues to contest his case in court.

Notably, Kanu’s family had previously dismissed the legal team in June 2023.

A statement issued by Kanu’s younger brother, Kanunta Kanu, and posted on his social media handle, read: “I hereby formally notify @MikeozekhomeSAN and @IfeanyiEjiofor that their services are no longer required in #MaziNnamdiKanu’s case pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria and all matters concerning him.”

The objective is to have Kanu transferred to Kuje prison, where he will have unrestricted access to people.

Ms Namukwaya admitted to the outlet that her pregnancy journey was quite challenging due to her age saying: “There was a time I felt very sick because of the pregnancy. I spent nearly all my savings. Then I went to a hospital and talked to the doctor about my condition.” The doctor helped organize funding for Namukwaya to be transported to another area for better care.

Dr Sali explained to the outlet that Ms Namukwaya used a donor egg and her partner’s sperm for the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedure. He added that the twins were born 31 weeks premature and had to be placed in an incubator.
