The 64th Miss USA pageant was held on July 12, 2015 at the Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Olivia Jordan, Miss Oklahoma, was crowned Miss USA 2015 by 2014 Miss USA, Nia Sanchez who represented Nevada in last year’s competition. All fifty states and the District of Columbia competed for the crown. She will represent the USA in the Miss Universe 2015 competition.
Jordan was followed in the top five by first runner-up Miss Texas Ylianna Guerra, second runner-up Miss Rhode Island Anea Garcia, third runner-up Miss Nevada Brittany McGowan, and fourth runner-up Miss Maryland Mamé Adjei.
The contest was entangled in controversy after it’s co-owner, Donald Trump made a series of highly controversial and insensitive comments about Mexicans last month, referring to many Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers in his presidential campaign announcement. The comments infuriated the Hispanic community and many of Trump’s business partners, causing both Univision and NBC to back out of airing the pageant. Many of the original hosts and judges also dropped out.
