PHOTOS: United States First Lady Dazzles in $12,000 Carolina Herrera Gown at State Dinner.

First lady Michelle Obama, left, and President Barack Obama welcome French President François Hollande

The mother of two who turned 50 last month wore a dramatic long powder/liberty blue elegant ball gown at the state diner. Her husband, president Obama allowed her to steal the show by keeping it simple with a black tux. He just did not want to outshine his wife. The dinner in honor of French president, Francois Hollande took place on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at the North portico of the White House. Mrs. Obama deviated from her usual sleek and sleeveless outfits and trumps everyone by upstaging herself which kept all eyes on her.

The gown includes a hand-sewn beaded black lace, swooped in the middle with a black waist band which connected the bodice to a floor length “Liberty blue” silk skirt and finishes with a unique train like a traditional wedding gown. Oh! before i forget, the gown was made by a Venezuelan-American designer, Carolina Harrera.
