This incident happened during the verification exercise of primary school teachers’ certificate in Edo State. During the screening, governor Adams Oshimole paid a surprise visit to the Staff trainning Center venue for the exercise. The teacher in question is a staff of Asologun Primary School, Ikpoba Okha local government area, Benin City. When it was her turn to defend her credentials, she automatically developed acute ‘Dyslexia.’ She could not read a sworn affidavit she presented as part of her credentials. The governor was astonished and asked her “if you can’t read, what do you teach the pupils? What do you write on the board? He added. I must confess, it was quite painful to watch.
The chairman of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of teachers, Comrade Patrick Ikosimi, who was also present to monitor the exercise, said the woman’s failure was an embarrassment.
